Summary

The Wizards Guild has been shattered by a coup and, in the uproar, Geralt was seriously injured。 The Witcher is supposed to be a guardian of the innocent, a protector of those in need, a defender against powerful and dangerous monsters that prey on men in dark times。
But now that dark times have fallen upon the world, Geralt is helpless until he has recovered from his injuries。
While war rages across all of the lands, the future of magic is under threat and those sorcerers who survive are determined to protect it。 It's an impossible situation in which to find one girl - Ciri, the heiress to the throne of Cintra, has vanished - until a rumor places her in the Niflgaard court, preparing to marry the Emperor。
Injured or not, Geralt has a rescue mission on his hands。
The Witcher returns in this action-packed sequel to The Time of Contempt。

Didn't expect it to be so good! Loved the character banter, intrigue, grim realities of war。 Cleverly written with humor and never boring even though it seems like not a lot happens in the book。 Looking forward to the next one! This series is so weird。[3。5 stars]

I've maintained, more or less, the same idea when reading through The Witcher in that only about 75% of what you read (or listen to in the audio book version) is absolutely necessary for the story。 The rest feels much very much like a world building exposition that, while it does give depth and a sense of reality to what you're reading, bogs down and hampers any kind of momentum that you might be experiencing。That being said, Baptism of Fire DOES move quickly and seems to have much more going on I've maintained, more or less, the same idea when reading through The Witcher in that only about 75% of what you read (or listen to in the audio book version) is absolutely necessary for the story。 The rest feels much very much like a world building exposition that, while it does give depth and a sense of reality to what you're reading, bogs down and hampers any kind of momentum that you might be experiencing。That being said, Baptism of Fire DOES move quickly and seems to have much more going on。 There's a new cast of characters that are distinct and well rounded and I got a sense of forward moving plot progression which felt hinted at in the previous entries。It still has its slow moments of talking and talking and talking, but this book has more action and atmosphere that propels you forward。 By the end, I actually did want more。 But there's always the next one ;) 。。。more

Oh I don't know。。。 The short stories were so good。 Despite quite a few fight scenes, they dropped great hints at something bigger, building tension and the characters。 There are a couple of similar scenes here, but otherwise, like the previous one, this is mostly dull travelogue where little plot or character growth happens。 Ah well。 Oh I don't know。。。 The short stories were so good。 Despite quite a few fight scenes, they dropped great hints at something bigger, building tension and the characters。 There are a couple of similar scenes here, but otherwise, like the previous one, this is mostly dull travelogue where little plot or character growth happens。 Ah well。 。。。more

This series is so beautifully complex - the intricate characters, the tangled plotlines, the magic and mystery。。。 I LOVE IT! The unwinding story of Geralt and Ciri was exactly what I needed after my previous month-long journey into Russian literature, and I always feel so inspired by Sapkowski's writing。 The ONLY sad thing about this book was that I really missed Yennefer's perspective, but I know she'll be back stronger than ever in Book 4 :) (review coming soon!) The most action in the series so far, as expected by the title。 It's a very Geralt-centric installment, which certainly isn't a bad thing。 However, I could have used a little more Ciri and Yennefer throughout the pages。 The new characters introduced are intriguing and worthwhile additions to the story。 They do a good job adding to Geralt's arc, especially the alchemist Regis for a more mysterious element。 The most action in the series so far, as expected by the title。 It's a very Geralt-centric installment, which certainly isn't a bad thing。 However, I could have used a little more Ciri and Yennefer throughout the pages。 The new characters introduced are intriguing and worthwhile additions to the story。 They do a good job adding to Geralt's arc, especially the alchemist Regis for a more mysterious element。 。。。more

I think I enjoyed this the most so far。 In the last book, the fight at Thanedd was outstanding but Geralds little 'fellowship' has been the high point for me。 Regis and Milva, with Dandilion in tow have kept me entertained。 And once you've read it and laughed at the irony of Geralt of Rivia's identity, you will hopefully think the same as me。 Great story! Mejor que el 1 y 2。

It's slow in places。 Part of my problem with this book and the other novels in this series (not the short stories) is that although Geralt is a Witcher whose job is to kill monsters, this story is not about him killing monsters (there's a vampire, but he's an ally and he doesn't even drink blood!)。 Geralt's just trying to rescue Ciri, not killing monsters。 It's slow in places。 Part of my problem with this book and the other novels in this series (not the short stories) is that although Geralt is a Witcher whose job is to kill monsters, this story is not about him killing monsters (there's a vampire, but he's an ally and he doesn't even drink blood!)。 Geralt's just trying to rescue Ciri, not killing monsters。 。。。more

It feels like things are progressing very slow in these books。 Still curious about what is yet to happen though。 The audiobooks are quite entertaining! Definitely recommending the medium。

Mucho más ligero que el anterior。 La trama avanza sin el volcado de nombres del anterior libro, con una buena mezcla de acción sin que dejen de pasar cosas。 Habrá que seguir

This book stuck with me hard。 The themes of war investigated in this book was relentless and hit very hard。 This book left me thinking about life and my values for a WHILE afterwards。 May be my favourite book of the series

I think I may need to take a break from this series, Time of Contempt was not an enjoyable read, and Baptism of fire was where I wanted the series to really kick off。 Unfortunately this book just didn't do it for me, Its a fine read most of the time but there's very little plot progression and the politics seem so convoluted compared to other fantasy series that I've read。I took a huge break after Sword of Destiny and ended up really enjoying Blood of Elves so here's hoping the same thing happen I think I may need to take a break from this series, Time of Contempt was not an enjoyable read, and Baptism of fire was where I wanted the series to really kick off。 Unfortunately this book just didn't do it for me, Its a fine read most of the time but there's very little plot progression and the politics seem so convoluted compared to other fantasy series that I've read。I took a huge break after Sword of Destiny and ended up really enjoying Blood of Elves so here's hoping the same thing happens again。4/10 。。。more

Who knew that an author could make a journey that never arrives anywhere so interesting。 There are some dull and confusing moments, but when Geralt is on the page you just want to keep reading。

Another great book from the Witcher Saga。Great continuation from Time of Contempt。Cant wait to read the the next one The Tower of the Swallow。

Sonee

After getting over the dullness of book 1 & confusion of book 2, I wouldn’t have read this one。 I did only because I wanted to know how Ciri’s story evolves。 Thankfully, this was better。 It followed Geralt’s search Ciri。 Milva made the tale more interesting。

Xristina Maragaki

It was so slow, I barely got through with it。。。 But at the lase 100 pages or so, it made amends。。。 The ending was magical and it was worth the wait and the boredom!
